About the Book

TIME BEGAN IN A GARDEN …

Welcome aboard for a turbulent and action-packed journey through time, as you follow an ALEXANDER ancestral line that began in Mesopotamia, now known as Iraq. You will be guided through about 6,000 years of time as you follow in the footsteps of those who went before us, and eventually settled on the shores of our Eastern Seaboard.

New and documented research findings provide unmistakable evidence as to our heritage! Of great interest to ALEXANDER researchers today is the evidence that the SCOTCH-IRISH ALEXANDER line descended from Clan Donald in the Western Isles of Scotland. In addition, JOHN DUBH of Clan Donald, took the name of MACALISTER (”MAC” means son of and “ALISTER” means father) after he was the 4th Lord of the Isles. It was this same JOHN DUBH who was appointed Constable of Tarbert Castle in Kintyre by COLIN CAMPBELL, the Clan Campbell Chief, who was in control at that time. JOHN DUBH subsequently became the first Chief of the newly-formed MacAlisters of Loup in Kintyre, whose primary responsibility was to rule over all the MacAlister families. He served for a short time until his death, after which there was no living son or available grandson to succeed him. Consequently, it was his great grandson by the name of ANGUS JOHN who became the 2nd Chief of Clan MacAlister. The fact that ANGUS JOHN followed JOHN DUBH as Chief of Clan MacAlister is proof he was on the patrimonial line, a necessary prerequisite for acquiring that position.

This line continued on down through ALEXANDER to Archibald and his cousin, JOHN, who became JOHN ALEXANDER of Eredy in Ireland. The name, ALEXANDER, is the English equivalent of the Gaelic name, MACALISTER. This JOHN ALEXANDER had sons named Archibald, John, Robert, Andrew and WILLIAM. I have found evidence that it was this William Alexander who was the father of the seven sons and two daughters who came to America during the 17th century. Their names were William, Andrew, Elizabeth, James, Frances, Samuel, Joseph, John and Jane. I am a descendant of one of those sons who was named JAMES, the Weaver, who eventually setted in New Munster, Cecil County, Maryland. It is an intriguing story, indeed, of how this all came about!
