Book Review by Kenneth Gene Alexander Sr.

To the reader, genealogist, researcher, or any person that’s an avid history reader on families:

I not only recommend the reading of this documentary book for its vast wealth of information, but also for its delightful and excitful wording. I am refering to this book written By Dr. Sarah ( Alexander ) Culton titled : A Documentay of Scotch-Irish ” Alexander Family History. ”

I would like to mention that after reading this book by Dr. Culton that it’s obvious that a great deal of hard work, time, effort, and passion went into writing this work of art. It’s also obvious that she spent many hours in her preperation of this book. I mention this because on a personal level it is hard for me to find anything to read that doesn’t immediatly make me tired or want to fall asleep. I can tell you when I first started reading I knew I was not going to stop. In fact I read this entire book in one days time. I later had to go back through the entire book and then make notes for myself to do research with. The Names, locations, dates and sources are of most importance in this book but I have to say the stories behind them were the most fascinating to me. I learned more from this book than I ever had in research on the Alexander name, and I have read a few. Sure there are going to be additions or changes in some other persons information that might not exactly correspond, but keep in mind this is through Dr. Culton’s line and probably many of ours as well. I can tell you for fact that I had been searching for Great grandparents of mine for almost three years with no luck in sight until I read this book and some information led me to check on some things and when I did, guess what I found them. I now know who my grandparents are and where they lived. I’m hoping if I can find this Alexander’s parents from here then I will be able to trace back like she has, or maybe even connect with hers and have all that I need or hoped for.

I wish to personally thank Dr. Sarah Alexander Culton for her generosity in providing me a copy of her book, as well as for her hard work and magnificant writing. Thank you my friend in kind.

Recent evaluations of my previous edition appear below:

I began the quest to learn more of my Alexander family history approximately three years ago. It was during this time that I became acquainted with Dr. Sarah Alexander-Culton who has been a great friend to me in my research. I also purchased Dr. Culton’s book, A Documentary of Scotch-Irish Alexander Family History, and can say that it is one of the most interesting family history manuscripts I have read. It is an invaluable resource for any Alexander family researcher and a most intriguing account of the Alexanders and their place in world history. The book is very professional both in appearance and content in addition to being very well-written, which can be expected considering the credentials of it’s author. The historical information given in the book is both impressive and educational. Dr. Culton also gives a great perspective and clarity to the Alexander family and, in particular, to the Alexanders that lived in colonial America, which is a difficult task indeed! It is obvious that a great deal of research and thought went into this book. Dr. Culton should certainly be commended for writing a wonderful historical and genealogical manuscript which will benefit Alexander family researchers for generations! I look forward to more books from Dr. Culton that will continue to illuminate the early history of our Alexander families!
